The jobs that need to be done are still there, but the titles for the people that do them have changed. A ship is basically a city at sea. So, think about all the jobs available in your town/city.     Also, some of those cities also have wooden US Navy ships too (Boston and Philadelphia) from way back in the day of wooden ships and iron men. The majority of ships that are stricken from the Naval Registry, in other words, decommissioned, are sold to foreign navies. The rest are stripped down of all useful gear such as boilers, boiler-evaporators, main reduction gears. Which the Navy does not own, they rent. Propulsion diesel engines, diesel generators, heat exchangers, air compressors. Air conditioner and refrigeration units, and similar equipment that can be retrofitted onto newer ships.
